The new way of conducting, behaving in by-elections seems to have dawned in Zambia – GEARS Initiative
GEARS Initiative has commended political parties participating in today’s by-elections for peaceful campaigns.
GEARS Initiative Executive Director McDonald Chipenzi noted in a statement issued to the media today the peaceful campaigns that have characterised the electoral activities ahead of the two local government by-elections in Mongu and Mkushi districts.
Chipenzi said the new way of conducting and behaving in by-elections seems to have dawned in Zambia.
He encouraged all participating political parties to remain responsible and respectful to each other as the voting progresses.
“In addition, we urge the Electoral Commission to also set the date for the pending vacancies at Luangwa District Council and at one of the wards at Chienge District Council following the court decision to nullify the election of the Luangwa District chairperson and the resignation of the incumbent ward councilor in Chienge Council respectively,” he said.
