UPND wins all 3 by elections
The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has won in all the three local government by-elections, which took place yesterday.
The areas in which elections were held are Chitimukulu Ward, in Chililabombwe on the Copperbelt, Muchinda Ward in Serenje, Central province, and Katilye ward, in Lupososhi, in the Northern province.
UPND’s Solomon Banda polled 501 votes in Chitimukulu ward, to beat the closet rival, the PF’s Donald Mwape, who got 251 votes.
Returning Officer, Michael Katebe declared Banda duly elected Councillor for Chitimukulu ward, at 21:40 hours last night.
In Serenje, UPND’s Thomas Phiri polled 1,291 votes to beat his closest rival, Rodwell Kunda of the Socialist Party, who got 817 votes.
Meanwhile, the UPND’s Ernest Kasakula has won the Katilye local government seat, in Lupososhi.
