Zambia emerge overall winners for the Arnold Sports Festival
Zambia has emerged overall winners of the Arnold Sports Festival, which was held in Rooderport, South Africa.
A team of nine strongmen athletes from Zambia participated at the just-ended Arnold Sports Festival and swept medals in various categories of the tournament, with seven Gold and two silver medals.
The tournament saw Ruth Ellidah Tembo mint gold in the U64 Novice category followed by Nicholas Muyepa who also won gold in the U80 Novice category while Phillip Kademaunga outshined his opponents in the U105 Novice category to win third gold for Zambia.
Others who minted gold medals are Chipuwe Nicole Moyo who came out top of the U74 Amateur category, Gift Habeenzu who won the U105 Amateur category and Majaya David Mberi in the Open Novice while Cherry Muchindu completed the gold medal galore for Zambia in the Open Pro-amateur category.
The Silver medals came from John Mushibwe and Naomi Zimba in the U90 Novice and U74 Amateur categories respectively.
Speaking at the close of the competition, Zambia Strongman Federation president Patterson Muzondiwa described the win as a glimpse of better things to come for the federation.
Muzondiwa said he is excited that the team performed well and won in different categories, adding that this is evidence that the country was represented well as most of the players outshined their opponents and raised the Zambian flag high.
Meanwhile, one of the athletes, Gift Habeenzu, said he is happy that he did not only participate in the tournament, but won gold as well and that this is the beginning of good things to come as his hard work has paid off.
Habeenzu, who is also Zambia Police Instructor at the school of Public Order Maintenance SPOM (KAMFINSA) in Kitwe, said he is happy to be part of the team that participated and encouraged youths to take up different sporting activities in the country.
He noted that sports bring people together from different schools, backgrounds, and communities to interact, share experiences, and showcase their skills.
And Zambia's Acting High Commissioner to South Africa Inonge Mwenya said she is happy that the athletes performed very well and congratulated the team for its outstanding performance at the just-ended Arnold Sports Festival Africa.
Zambia was among four countries which participated at the tournament.
