Minister fired, arrested over Sugilite scandal

Police in Lusaka have arrested Derricky Chilundika, former Luapula Province Minister for carrying out mining activities without a Licence.
This happened yesterday, a few minutes after President Hakainde Hichilema fired Chilundika with immediate effect.
It is alleged that the suspect, while acting together with others, between 4th and 13th January, 2023, did mine 23 tonnes of Sugilite Mineral Ore in Chembe District without a Licence.
Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale told Daily Star in a statement that the former Minister is detained in Police custody waiting to be formally charged.
