HH implores Chinese electric car company to build their dream in Zambia
President Hakahinde Hichilema has implored one of the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturing companies in Shenzhen, China, Build Your Dream (BYD) to consider investing in Zambia.
Hichilema said during his tour in China that Zambia has the right mineral resources that are key for producing components of electric cars .
“Through their Chairman and founder, Wang Chuanfu, we invited BYD to
consider investing in Zambia that has the right mineral resources necessary for producing their components. We are determined to make Zambia an industrial hub by value addition
to our minerals and create jobs and business opportunities for our
people,” he said.
The President said that Zambia is currently heavily stressed with petroleum bills which has contributed to pushing the cost of living high.
He disclosed that this is the reason his administration is intending to gradually migrate to electrical vehicles especially for public service transportation.
the Head of State said the innovations will equally reduce vehicle emissions and help address environmental challenges as the world is dealing with climate change.
“We are further looking forward to exciting and mind-stimulating opportunities for our citizens, especially our young people wanting to venture into engineering," he said.
